SilverSneakers, an annual program supporter and sponsor for the Arnold Active Living Festival, recently donated $10,000 to fight breast cancer. Members involved in the fund-raising drive visited SilverSneakers locations in Ohio more than 116,000 times in a month to earn the money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
On hand for the check-presentation at the Metro Fitness North gym in Columbus were cancer survivors Meredith Rich and Phyllis Hoggatt, who credit diet and exercise. Metro Fitness North is one of Ohio’s 120 SilverSneakers locations.
SilverSneakers is a national exercise program for older adults and is available at no added cost to eligible Medicare health plan members. Ohio has more than 18,000 SilverSneakers members who have access to a variety of participating locations, many of which offer fitness equipment and the signature SilverSneakers Fitness Program classes designed specifically for older adults and taught by certified instructors. Nationally, there are 9,000 SilverSneakers fitness and wellness centers.
