A new amateur mixed martial arts series that will send winning fighters to the Arnold Sports Festival will debut this weekend at the LC Pavilion.
The first Amateur MMA Festival will be held at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16 and will feature 15 bouts of high-energy, competitive mixed martial arts. The event is a prelude to the Amateur MMA Festival that will be held Friday, March 5 at the LC Pavilion during the Arnold Sports Festival weekend.
Columbus-based mixed martial arts and boxing promoter Troy Speakman, along with co-promoter Bob Lorimer, will stage the card that will feature fighters from Columbus and throughout the Midwest. The Amateur MMA Festival will be sanctioned by the Ohio Boxing Commission.
“We are excited to announce this top-level amateur mixed martial arts series that will be held throughout the year in Columbus,” Lorimer said. “The Amateur MMA Festival series will provide top class amateur fighters from around the Midwest the opportunity advance to fight on the card for our March event, which will provide unparalleled exposure for amateur mixed martial arts fighters.”
The Arnold Sports Festival – the largest multi-sport festival in the nation -- will host an amateur mixed martial arts event for the first time in 2010. The card will feature up to 20 bouts.
Doors open on Saturday January 16 at 7 p.m., with the first bout to start at 8:30 p.m.
