Maryland's Mike Jenkins Leads Arnold Amateur Strongman After Day 1

Mike Jenkins of Maryland leads the Arnold Amateur Strongman World Championships after the first day of competition at the Arnold Sports Festival.

Jenkins (182 points), Mike Caruso (172) of North Dakota and Jonathan Hughes (163) of the United Kingdom lead a field of 10 that qualified for the Arnold Amateur Strongman finals on Sunday.

Brad Ardrey of Lancaster, Ohio, won the Atlas stones, the final event of the day, to finish 10th and advance to the finals. Ardrey lifted stones weighing 235, 300, 330, 365 and 410 pounds onto a 54-inch platform in 28.78 seconds.

There are five Americans and five Europeans among the 10 finalists. The competition began with 57 athletes from 20 nations.

The Arnold Amateur Strongman finals will be held from 1:30-4 p.m. Sunday on the Fitness EXPO Stage.
