10 Questions With Dave Dyson Of Monster Energy

Published: 2009-08-03

Interview by Tedd Cookerly

As a kid I always looked up to my brother Brad. I remember he played in a softball league for a bar called Jokers in Bellflower Ca. All of the guys on the team had nick names on the back of their jersey and Brad’s said CLUTCH. When I think about how Dave and Monster have stepped up in the 11th hour of the Cow Town Showdown the word Clutch comes to mind. Dave reminds me a lot of my brother, stand up guy, hard working, down for skateboarding and quick witted (check out my typo in the first question, Classic). A guy like Dave is someone you want in your corner for sure and the dude has cases of Monster Energy at his disposal. So here for your consideration is 10 questions with the man you need on your side Dave Dyson.

What were you initial fist thoughts about skateboarding becoming an event for the Arnold Sports festival in 2010?

Wow! ”Fist” thoughts?  I didn’t know skate fighting was even an event, but hey, I’m all in!

What are some of your goals in sponsoring this event and whom would you like to meet while you are at Veterans memorial for the Cow Town Showdown?

My goal is to bring a lot of Monster Energy Drink to the people!  It’s a high energy event so we’re gonna ramp it up a little.

Two days of skateboarding mayhem is about to go down…are you going to jump in there yourself and mix it up, watch as a spectator or just get crazy and throw down your 20 bucks and get the big prizes?

Definitely gonna go crazy but I don’t know about the 20 bucks.

Skateboarding now more then ever seems to speak to many people on many levels, how is skateboarding speaking to you and your support of the event?

On a serious note, I’m seeing skateboarding, or rather those into it, doing more and more community minded things – things that help people.  Guys like Columbus’ own Nate Eckhart who went to Africa for the Element/Toms Board and Shoe giveaway – that’s what I’m talking about.  We are all in this World together, like it or not, so we might as well lend a helping hand to our brothers in need and make life better for us all.  I truly believe your good deeds come back to you tenfold.

What should everyone know about Monster Engergy  and what should we expect to see from you at the Cow Town Showdown?

We are MONSTER and we are here to see that no one falls asleep on the job at the Showdown.  Expect to see & taste lots of icy cold goodness.

Sponsoring an event like The Cow Town Showdown is a big undertaking; we are all excited to find out about what kind of approach you will take towards being part of the event and what we can look forward to seeing at your booth.

Sorry, was there a question in there?

Tell us about the last time that you were on a skateboard and how did it go. Be honest, skateboarders fall all the time and was there cussing?

Dang!  Was I on video?  I busted my butt big-time.  The surgeon says I’m not allowed to even LOOK at a skateboard again – or was that the insurance adjuster?  It all blends together anymore.  Now, back on topic.

As always the Arnold Sports Festival places a heavy emphasis on fitness, what do you do in your daily routine that makes you a fit person?

I’m certainly not as fit as I’d like to be so I’ve got a lot of work to do but, the Arnold Classic should be the perfect event to get me motivated toward that twelve pack… Er, uhh, I mean six pack.  Yeah, that’s it, six pack!

With so many events going on throughout the weekend, was there another event that you would like to attend and what about it attracts you?

There’s definitely something intriguing about the amateur bikini event but, the skateboarding should be awesome!

So Arnold himself comes up and asks you one question, what questions do you hope he asks and what will be your answer?

Arnold: “How should I make this check out?”  Me: “With a lot of zeros man, a lot of zeros.”
