Arnold Sports Festival, Nationwide Children's Hospital, Local Restaurants Team Up For Health
Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Arnold Sports Festival entered into a five-year partnership in late 2009 that names the hospital as both a philanthropic beneficiary and official youth sports health partner for the Arnold Sports Festival. The two organizations are also partnering with the Central Ohio Restaurant Association on a citywide fund-raiser that will benefit the Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation. (See list of restaurant partners).
Nationwide Children’s Hospital will provide its sports medicine expertise in guiding medical services for the thousands of youth athletes that compete annually at the Arnold Sports Festival. The Nationwide Children's team focuses on sports predominantly attended by youth athletes including archery, cheerleading & dance, DanceSport, fencing, figure skating, gymnastics, karate, skateboarding, table tennis, Tae Kwon Do and wrestling.
“We are proud to partner with Nationwide Children’s Hospital in jointly promoting a healthy lifestyle for our community’s youth,” said Jim Lorimer, co-producer of the Arnold Sports Festival with California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. “Nationwide Children’s is one of the leading pediatric care providers in the United States and we thank its staff for caring for the Arnold Sports Festival’s athletes.”
In addition, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and the Arnold Sports Festival are partnering on a raffle that will also benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Prizes include a luncheon with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, a signed Lance Armstrong jersey that the seven-time Tour de France winner wore during Pelotonia, and a one-year membership to i-Resolve Fitness and one month free training. Tickets are $10 and available online at www.nationwidechildrens.org/arnold
“As North America’s premier youth sports event, the Arnold Sports Festival shines a bright light on the importance and value of health and wellness,” notes Steve Allen, MD, CEO of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “We are proud to bring our sports medicine expertise as their official youth sports health partner and are honored to be the philanthropic beneficiary of this internationally recognized event.”
The Arnold Sports Festival and Nationwide Children’s Hospital are also partnering on a multi-year philanthropic initiative benefits Nationwide Children’s Hospital Foundation. Central Ohio Restaurant Association members have developed a variety of programs that raise money for the initiative before and during the Arnold Sports Festival. Programs include donating $1 or a percentage of sales for certain meals, such as kids’ meals or featured items, for a designated time. Posters and other materials will be displayed in the stores to promote the program.
