50+ DanceSport Moves to New Day, New Ballroom

The 4th Annual 50+ DanceSport Challenge, will be held on a new day of the week--Saturday, March 2, 2013, and in a new ballroom--the sparkling NEW Hilton Columbus Downtown, connected by a gleaming elevated walkway to the Greater Columbus Convention Center.

The 50+ DanceSport Challenge, is the one and only high quality dance competition exclusively for dancers age 50 and better.  It was initiated in 2010 by co-organizers, Mike Lorz, chairman of the Arnold Active Living Festival for eight years, and Terry Cavanaugh, owner of the Elegance in Dance studio in Centerville, Ohio.  Previous competitions were held on Fridays, in the Hyatt Regency Ballroom.

“We are very proud and honored that the 50+ DanceSport Challenge is part of the Arnold Sports Festival, now celebrating its 25th year in Columbus, Ohio,” Lorz said.

“There will be competitions in all levels and styles in Pro/Am and Am/Am, as well as solo routines, formations, and multi-dance events and more,” Cavanaugh said.  “In the Pro/AM division only the student must be fifty and over,” he explained.  “In the Am/Am division at least one of the couple must be fifty or better.”

Registration for the 50+ DanceSport Challenge opens at 8:00 am, with competitive dance heats from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm.  The Evening Dance, which is open to the public, begins at 7 pm, with demonstrations and a few surprises throughout the night, with the last dance at 11 pm.  Last year more than 500 people attended the evening dance party.
