Arnold Wrestling Championships

2010 Tournament To Feature Arnold 2nd Shot Ohio State Wrestling Championships

Wrestlers know. When your first take down, misses, you take a second shot. It is the grappler’s equivalent of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s now classic line:  “I’ll be back!”

“Our schedule nearly always puts us on the same weekend as the state wrestling tournament for high schools,” said Paul Bukky, event chairman. “But only about 600 of Ohio’s 10,000 high school wrestlers can compete at that event.  The Arnold 2nd Shot Ohio State Wrestling Championships gives a lot more wrestlers a reason to take a second shot, keep training and keep wrestling.”

About 800 wrestlers will compete on 20 mats in Nationwide Arena starting at 9 a.m., Sunday, March 7, in 14 weight classes in three divisions based on school size.  More than one wrestler from the same school and weight class may compete. Plaques and medals will be presented to the top six places in each weight class. A $2,000 scholarship will go to the top male wrestler, presented by Columbus Rotary and the Arnold Sports Festival.

“We hope a lot of young wrestlers who will be spectators at the state tournament on Friday and Saturday, will then compete in the Arnold 2nd Shot tournament on Sunday,” Bukky said.  “This way our two wrestling competitions will complement each other, and give young grapplers a jam-packed weekend of wrestling.”

Weigh-ins will be held Saturday, March 6, from 1-4 pm at Nationwide Arena. Wrestlers and teams can enter the Arnold 2nd Shot Wrestling Championship. Entry fee is $30. Weigh-ins will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, March 6 at Nationwide Arena. Entered weight is your official weight as of March 2, 2010. Weight classes are high school weights plus-4.
