The Eleventh Annual Art at the Arnold competition at the Arnold Sports Festival was held March 6 - 7, 2020 with artists portraying athletes and sports action at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
First place went to Tim Bachman of Hilliard, OH for his pastel drawing of two strongman athletes. Other winners were: 2nd place, Fran Mangino of Venice, FL for her watercolor of a weightlifter; and 3rd place was Tonya Ramsey of Granville, OH for her oil painting of the female weightlifters. Honorable mentions went to David Belgrad of Canfield, OH for his charcoal drawing of the Wellness female model and Pam Hartford of Columbus, OH for her pastel of a female weightlifter.
The competition consisted of a half day of figure drawing and painting of fitness athlete models highlighted with a visit by Arnold. In the afternoon the artists sketched and gathered reference material throughout the events located in the convention center. The second day artists worked in an all day session using material gathered the day before. The day ended with judging by Ian Ruffino, Director of Exhibitions Beeler Gallery at CCAD, an award presentation and a dinner social.
Next’s year event will be held at the 2021 Arnold Sports Festival. Watch for information and deadlines for next year’s competition as space will again be limited,” said event director, Kevin Buckland.
